Hi, I’m Rebekah…

Book lover, film watcher, e-book amasser, library haunter, and all around story addict…

My weakness for a used book sale is comparable to some people’s weakness for caffeine…

I’m still on the hunt for that book of fairy tales I remember reading as a child but somehow got lost over the years…

I’m a huge fan of the underdog and stories of them rising above their circumstances and doing great things…

My idea of a fun Friday night includes good food, a hand-made afghan, and my current favorite TV series or book from the library…

You might say I’m a little (or a lot) obsessed with stories and their impact...

I also live in northern Idaho with my husband and three very busy boys. My husband personally helped me haul my books on SIX different moves, two of them cross-country. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is. He likes to tease me about all my books, but I forgive him when he cooks for me on his days off.

Before starting a family I spent four years working in the library world as a shelver, circulation assistant, and eventually a librarian assistant. As much as I enjoyed the routine of the circulation desk, I most enjoyed sitting behind the reference desk answering random and often surprising questions. My favorites were always the ones who either needed a specific book or those who needed information on a certain topic. One of the libraries I worked at did an superb job of having a varied and well-stocked collection. I was always intrigued by what other people were looking for. And being exposed to many different people in that setting introduced me to books and topics that I otherwise might never have encountered.

As far back as I can remember, stories have been impacting every aspect of my life, from how I view the world to how I view myself. Even before I knew how to read, I knew I wanted to be a ballerina because of the book Ballerina Bess by Dorothy Jane Mills and Dorothy Seymour. Other interests and my inherited physique (more suited for volleyball than ballet) intervened, but I still recall fondly how much I loved that book.

What this site is all about:

I’m a huge believer in the fact that stories, both true and fiction, profoundly affect each and every one of us whether we realize it or not.

The Story Obsessed Life celebrates and examines the things that haven’t changed and will always exist no matter how technologically advanced or “instantly accessible” we get. This site is an extension of my life and the stories I encounter. While books and film are two of my favorite story forms, I also love stories shared via stage, music, and person to person.

In this day and age of constant media and fast paced lives it might seem that our appreciation of such things like books or storytelling has diminished. But the truth is that it hasn’t. In fact, it’s even more intense (and needed) than ever before. When the charm of things like social media has worn off, we find ourselves longing for the things that have always been and is still there for the finding. I hope you’ll join my on my journey!
